Twenty Four Seven (1997) DVD
The plot
Alan Darcy believes that a boxing club could give the young men in his neighborhood something better to do than drift into trouble. Reopening the gym is only the beginning. Training brings rival groups together, but the pressures outside the ring do not disappear when they put on gloves. Bob Hoskins anchors Shane Meadows’s feature debut as a man determined to pass on the sense of purpose he once found in boxing. The story balances rough humor with the difficulties of building trust and self-respect. It is a strong selection for viewers interested in British social drama and sporting stories whose most important struggles take place before the bell rings.
