Toys in the Attic (1963) DVD
The plot
Julian Berniers returns to New Orleans with his young wife and an unexpected fortune. His sisters have spent years supporting him, but prosperity does not bring the relief he expects. Questions about the money awaken jealousy, suspicion and possessive feelings that threaten to tear the household apart. Dean Martin, Geraldine Page, Wendy Hiller and Yvette Mimieux lead George Roy Hill’s adaptation of Lillian Hellman’s play. The family’s shabby home becomes a setting where affection and control are difficult to distinguish. This Southern drama offers a substantial dramatic role for Martin and a tense encounter with the damage people can do while insisting they act out of love.
