The Statue (1971) DVD
The plot
A celebrated linguist is about to receive a very public honor: a monumental statue created by his wife. The likeness is flattering until he notices one detail that is unmistakably not his. Convinced she has used another man as a model, he turns his new fame into a jealous investigation. David Niven, Virna Lisi and Robert Vaughn star in Rod Amateau’s comedy, with appearances by John Cleese and Graham Chapman. Academic prestige, artistic freedom and marital insecurity collide as the search becomes increasingly ridiculous. It is a decidedly adult farce for viewers interested in the lighter and more eccentric corners of Niven’s later career.
