The Third Solution (1988) DVD
The plot
The killing of an American woman in Rome draws diplomat Mark Hendricks into an investigation with consequences beyond the crime itself. Plans for a papal visit to the Soviet Union have attracted competing interests, and each new clue leads toward people working to influence that encounter. Treat Williams, F. Murray Abraham and Danny Aiello star in Pasquale Squitieri’s thriller, also known as Russicum. Diplomacy, religious institutions and covert operations overlap as Hendricks tries to understand whom he can trust. It is a fitting choice for viewers who prefer their espionage stories tangled in the rivalries and suspicions of the late Cold War.
