The Oscar (1966) DVD
The plot
Frank Fane sees stardom as a way out of a hard life, and he is willing to use the people around him to get it. As his Hollywood career rises, friendships and romance become bargaining chips. An Academy Award nomination raises the stakes of a campaign already driven by vanity and betrayal. Stephen Boyd leads a cast including Elke Sommer, Tony Bennett and Milton Berle in Russell Rouse’s show-business melodrama. The film turns the pursuit of recognition into a contest of loyalty and manipulation. Its larger-than-life view of Hollywood makes it an intriguing choice for collectors of studio-era personalities and backstage dramas.
