The Caretaker (1963) DVD — The Guest
The plot
A man offers a homeless stranger a place to sleep in a cluttered London room. The offer seems simple, but the arrival of his brother changes the atmosphere, and all three men begin testing one another through conversation, promises and shifting claims to authority. Donald Pleasence, Alan Bates and Robert Shaw star in Clive Donner’s adaptation of Harold Pinter’s play. Also known as The Guest, The Caretaker turns a modest setting into a contest over belonging and control. It rewards viewers who enjoy performance-led drama, where a pause or an apparently casual remark can carry an unexpected threat.
