The plot
A misunderstanding during an encounter with Texas lawmen turns Gregorio Cortez into a fugitive. As a pursuit gathers momentum, competing accounts of what happened shape the way an ordinary man is seen by those hunting him—and by the communities following his story. Edward James Olmos stars in Robert M. Young’s Western drama, which draws on the case of a Mexican American farmer in 1901. Moving between the pursued man and his pursuers, the film offers both the tension of a manhunt and a thoughtful look at how language, prejudice and storytelling can transform events into legend.
