The plot
An experiment intended to address the world's food supply produces a terrifying escapee: a tarantula that keeps growing. As unexplained deaths disturb a desert community, a doctor and a laboratory assistant begin to uncover the danger behind a scientist's work. The creature soon becomes a threat too large for the town to ignore. John Agar, Mara Corday and Leo G. Carroll star in Jack Arnold's science-fiction horror film. Its contrast between quiet desert spaces and an enormous predator gives the familiar monster-movie premise a memorable setting. Tarantula is a fitting choice for fans of 1950s creature features and stories in which scientific ambition brings unexpected consequences.
