Watchers (1988) DVD
The plot
A teenager takes in a stray dog and discovers that its intelligence is far from ordinary. The animal has escaped from a research program, and it is not the only thing to get out. A dangerous creature and a determined government agent turn the boy’s new friendship into a fight for survival. Corey Haim, Michael Ironside and Barbara Williams star in Jon Hess’s adaptation of Dean R. Koontz’s novel. The connection between boy and dog gives the pursuit an emotional center, while the experiment supplies the horror. It is a fitting selection for fans of 1980s creature films in which scientific ambition creates threats its own designers can no longer contain.
