Quintet (1979) DVD — Remastered
The plot
In a future gripped by ice, the remnants of society pass their time playing a game called Quintet. A traveler named Essex arrives in this frozen world and becomes caught in a mystery in which the rules extend beyond the board. Understanding the game may be his only chance of surviving it. Paul Newman stars in Robert Altman's unusual science-fiction drama, with Bibi Andersson and Fernando Rey. The film exchanges the familiar momentum of a chase for uncertainty, ritual and a landscape that seems to be closing in on everyone. This remastered edition is a selection for viewers interested in dystopian cinema and Altman's more enigmatic work.
