None but the Lonely Heart (1944) DVD

The plot
Restless Ernie Mott returns to London and learns that his mother is seriously ill. He tries to help with her shop, but poverty and the promise of easier money pull them toward dangerous decisions. Romance offers another possible escape, yet brings troubles of its own. Cary Grant takes on a dramatic role alongside Ethel Barrymore in Clifford Odets's adaptation of Richard Llewellyn's novel. The film trades drawing-room elegance for a working-class world of uncertain prospects and fierce family ties. It is an absorbing choice for Grant collectors and viewers interested in stories about people trying to hold on to dignity when their options are narrowing.
