Poor Cow (1967) DVD
The plot
Young London mother Joy hopes for a better life, but her relationships keep drawing her back into uncertainty. With a husband involved in crime and a new romance offering only fragile comfort, she tries to find security for herself and her son. Everyday pressures make even modest dreams difficult to hold on to. Carol White and Terence Stamp star in Ken Loach's first theatrical feature, adapted from Nell Dunn's novel. The film's interest lies in a woman's resilience amid poverty and disappointment. It is a rewarding choice for viewers exploring British social drama and the early work of a director attentive to lives often overlooked on screen.
