Hostage for a Day (1994) DVD
The plot
Warren Kooey dreams of leaving his unhappy home and unrewarding job for a new life in Alaska. With his savings gone, he devises a desperate way to raise the money: arrange his own kidnapping. Involving an actual criminal makes the plan considerably harder to control. George Wendt stars with Robin Duke in this comedy directed by John Candy. An ordinary man's escape fantasy grows into an increasingly complicated ransom scheme, offering viewers an offbeat combination of domestic frustration, criminal misunderstandings and a reluctant hostage.
