The plot
An illegal cross-country car race attracts an assortment of drivers with more enthusiasm than good judgment. A driver and his actress companion join the scramble, while police interference and unexpected detours threaten everyone's plans. Getting to the finish line becomes only one of the problems facing the competing crews. John Candy, Donna Dixon and Matt Frewer lead Jim Drake's ensemble comedy. The race provides a route from one comic encounter to another, combining motoring stunts with the friction between mismatched personalities. For viewers who enjoy broad road comedies, the pleasure is in watching ambitious plans come apart at speed.
