By the Sword (1991) DVD
The plot
Maximilian Suba takes a humble job at a fencing academy, but his knowledge of the sport soon reveals a past he has not explained. His approach to teaching clashes with that of the school’s demanding master, Alexander Villard, and their rivalry begins to expose a deeper connection. F. Murray Abraham and Eric Roberts face one another in Jeremy Kagan’s drama, with Mia Sara among the students caught between their methods. By the Sword uses fencing as both physical competition and a test of character, following two men whose unfinished history cannot remain outside the training room.
