Twins of Evil (1971) DVD
The plot
Orphaned twins Maria and Frieda arrive to live with their uncle Gustav Weil, a stern leader of a witch-hunting brotherhood. His campaign against supposed evil creates dangers of its own. Frieda’s fascination with Count Karnstein draws the sisters toward a genuine supernatural threat beyond their uncle’s control. Peter Cushing stars with Mary and Madeleine Collinson in John Hough’s Hammer horror film. The twins’ contrasting choices complicate a story in which outward appearances are unreliable and righteousness can become cruelty. Its combination of gothic atmosphere, vampirism and religious obsession makes it an intriguing selection for collectors exploring Hammer’s early-1970s films.
