The plot
Three separate tales lead from an uncanny painting to a murder investigation and a politician’s disturbing dreams. Each approaches mystery from a different direction, shifting between the supernatural and the dangers people create for one another. The stories share a fascination with appearances that conceal something darker. Orson Welles appears in the Lord Mountdrago episode, while Alan Badel contributes to all three stories. Directors Wendy Toye, David Eady and George More O’Ferrall give the segments their individual character. It is a rewarding selection for anthology enthusiasts who enjoy changing settings and tones without leaving the atmosphere of a carefully constructed mystery.
