The Mark (1961) DVD
The plot
Released after serving time for intent to molest a child, Jim Fuller tries to build a different life with help from a psychiatrist. Employment and a new relationship offer hope, but another investigation brings his past back into view and threatens the fragile place he has found in society. Stuart Whitman, Maria Schell and Rod Steiger star in Guy Green’s drama. Its difficult subject is approached through questions of responsibility, treatment and public judgment, rather than a conventional crime pursuit. The Mark is a serious selection for viewers interested in films that examine the tensions surrounding rehabilitation and the limits of a second chance.
