The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977) DVD
The plot
A valuable sapphire, a calculating new stepmother and two very different brothers set a family adventure spinning out of control. Hiding the jewel and joining the French Foreign Legion seems like an escape, but the desert brings another collection of absurd dangers and unlikely encounters. Marty Feldman directs and stars with Michael York and Ann-Margret in a comic reworking of the Beau Geste story. The film treats the grand gestures of imperial adventure as material for visual jokes and theatrical confusion. If you like parodies that turn familiar movie conventions inside out, this Foreign Legion expedition has plenty to play with.
