The Deadly Affair (1967) DVD
The plot
British intelligence officer Charles Dobbs is troubled by the apparent suicide of a man he has recently investigated. When his superiors tell him to move on, he follows the inconsistencies himself, entering a world where personal betrayals and professional loyalties are increasingly difficult to separate. James Mason stars alongside Simone Signoret and Maximilian Schell in Sidney Lumet’s adaptation of John le Carré’s Call for the Dead. The Deadly Affair offers a more intimate kind of spy story, built around suspicion, damaged relationships and the cost of discovering whom to trust. It suits collectors of thoughtful Cold War thrillers.
