Passed Away (1992) DVD
The plot
The sudden death of Jack Scanlan brings his family together for a funeral, but a dignified farewell becomes increasingly difficult to organize. Old tensions, private troubles and unexpected visitors turn the gathering into a test of everyone's patience. Eldest son Johnny tries to take charge and discovers that keeping the family together is a job of its own. Bob Hoskins leads an ensemble including Jack Warden, William Petersen and Frances McDormand in Charlie Peters's comedy. The humor comes from relatives who cannot put their everyday complications aside, even in mourning. It is a lively selection for viewers who enjoy family gatherings that go spectacularly off course.
