Cry, the Beloved Country (1951) DVD
The plot
A rural minister travels to Johannesburg to find his son and discovers a city divided by poverty and racial injustice. Guided by a fellow clergyman, he searches through unfamiliar streets, facing discoveries that bring the wider country's suffering painfully close to his own family. Canada Lee and Sidney Poitier star in Zoltan Korda's adaptation of Alan Paton's novel. Its emphasis on compassion amid personal tragedy makes a powerful choice for viewers drawn to literary drama and socially conscious cinema.
