Paris Blues (1961) DVD
The plot
Two American jazz musicians have made Paris their home when visiting tourists challenge the lives they have chosen. Romance forces each man to consider what he wants from music, love and the possibility of returning to the United States. For one, that decision also means confronting the discrimination he left behind. Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier, Joanne Woodward and Diahann Carroll star in Martin Ritt's drama, with Louis Armstrong among the performers. Music and the city's nightlife provide the setting for choices that cannot be settled by attraction alone. Paris Blues suits an evening for viewers drawn to jazz, adult romance and stories about belonging.
