The plot
Ludwig van Beethoven’s determination to raise his nephew Karl draws him into a bitter family struggle. The composer wants to guide the young man’s future, but his demands and interference leave little room for Karl’s growing independence. Wolfgang Reichmann plays Beethoven alongside Dietmar Prinz, Jane Birkin and Nathalie Baye in Paul Morrissey’s period drama. Beethoven’s Nephew turns from the concert hall toward the composer’s private relationships, exploring the uncomfortable distance between devotion and control.
