The Wicked Lady (1945) DVD
The plot
Barbara Skelton has secured wealth and social position, but respectable life soon leaves her restless. Disguised as a highway robber, she discovers a more dangerous source of excitement. Her encounter with another outlaw gives desire and ambition a new outlet, with consequences that threaten the life she has carefully arranged. Margaret Lockwood and James Mason star in Leslie Arliss’s flamboyant period melodrama. The contrast between elegant society and criminal adventure gives Barbara’s double life its energy. For collectors of classic British cinema, the film offers a memorable antiheroine whose appetite for excitement pushes well beyond the boundaries of the drawing room.
