The Rover (1967) DVD
The plot
After years at sea, Peyrol seeks a quiet refuge on the French coast. His new life brings him close to Arlette and her aunt, but the conflicts left by revolution and war reach into their home. A naval officer’s mission threatens to pull the weary adventurer back into action. Anthony Quinn stars alongside Rosanna Schiaffino, Rita Hayworth and Richard Johnson in Terence Young’s adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s novel. Romance and political danger give the coastal setting an unsettled atmosphere. For collectors of literary adventures, the film offers a reflective story about an older man who finds that leaving the past behind is harder than reaching shore.
