SubUrbia (1996) DVD
The plot
A group of young friends spends another night outside a suburban convenience store, talking, drinking and circling the question of what comes next. The return of a former classmate who has found success in music unsettles their familiar routine. As the hours pass, jokes and boasts give way to envy, dissatisfaction and choices that can no longer be put off. Richard Linklater directs Eric Bogosian's screen adaptation of his play, with Giovanni Ribisi, Steve Zahn and Amie Carey among the ensemble. The film finds its drama in conversation and frustrated ambition, making it an engaging selection for viewers drawn to character studies about friendship and the uneasy approach to adulthood.
