Shake Hands with the Devil (1959) DVD — Remastered
The plot
An American medical student in Dublin tries to remain outside Ireland's struggle for independence, but events pull him toward the resistance. A respected surgeon becomes his guide to a world of secrecy and armed action. As the conflict deepens, the younger man begins to question where commitment ends and fanaticism begins. James Cagney and Don Murray star with Dana Wynter in Michael Anderson's drama, set in 1921. The story puts a reluctant recruit beside a forceful mentor whose convictions leave little room for compromise. This remastered edition is a selection for viewers interested in political dramas that examine the personal cost of taking sides.
