The plot
As Allied forces advance through France in 1944, their supply lines struggle to keep pace. An Army truck unit must carry fuel and ammunition forward despite exhaustion, dangerous roads and tensions within its own ranks. The men behind the wheel face a mission on which the fighting troops depend. Jeff Chandler, Alex Nicol and Sidney Poitier star in Budd Boetticher's wartime drama. Personal resentments complicate the demands of keeping the convoy moving, bringing the human cost of support work into view. It is a choice for war-film collectors interested in stories beyond the front-line battlefield.
