Paperhouse (1988) DVD
The plot
While ill, a young girl draws a house and begins visiting it in her dreams. What she adds to the picture changes the world she enters, bringing companionship but also a growing sense of danger. A private refuge becomes something she may not be able to control. Charlotte Burke stars in Bernard Rose's adaptation of Catherine Storr's Marianne Dreams, with Glenne Headly and Ben Cross. The film connects childhood imagination with fears that follow its heroine into sleep. Its uneasy movement between fantasy and horror makes Paperhouse a distinctive choice for viewers who prefer atmosphere, mystery and emotional tension to a straightforward monster story.
