Othello (1952) DVD — Orson Welles

The plot
Othello's marriage to Desdemona becomes the target of Iago's calculated manipulation. By turning trust into suspicion, Iago draws the commander toward a tragic belief that the woman he loves has betrayed him. Shakespeare's story of jealousy and deception unfolds in a world where words can be as destructive as weapons. Orson Welles directs and takes the title role, with Suzanne Cloutier as Desdemona and Micheál MacLiammóir as Iago. Strong contrasts of light and shadow give the tragedy a distinctly cinematic form. This restored edition is a worthwhile addition for collectors exploring Welles's work or screen interpretations of Shakespeare.
