General Spanky (1936) DVD
The plot
With the Civil War drawing closer, Spanky and his young friends organize a regiment of their own. Their grand plans and improvised tactics bring childhood mischief into the adult conflict, where protecting friends becomes more important than playing at being soldiers. George 'Spanky' McFarland, Billie 'Buckwheat' Thomas and Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer appear with Phillips Holmes in this Hal Roach production. It gives Our Gang enthusiasts a feature-length outing with familiar performers in a historical setting, blending comedy with wartime melodrama.
