Breakthrough (1979) DVD
The plot
As Allied forces advance through Normandy, German Sergeant Rolf Steiner is drawn into a plan to negotiate a surrender. His mission depends on a conspiracy against Hitler, but divided loyalties and the ambitions of his own officers make any route out of the fighting uncertain. Richard Burton takes the role of Steiner in Andrew V. McLaglen’s wartime sequel to Cross of Iron, with Robert Mitchum, Rod Steiger and Helmut Griem among the cast. Breakthrough places battlefield action alongside the maneuvering of commanders who see the war approaching its final, dangerous phase.
